VIGOR++ updates
VIGOR++ (http://www.vigorpp.eu), the FP7 project working on virtual gastrointestinal (GI) tract modelling, has recently completed its technology roadmapping activity with the aim to inform scientists, clinicians, system integrators and other stakeholders of likely developments in this domain and where the contributions of various parties fit in helping to realise the related VPH vision.
VIGOR++ is focussed on a VPH model for improved detection and assessment of Crohn’s disease. It takes MRI, endoscopy and histopathological input data from historical records and dedicated medical studies and uses advances in image analysis, modelling and interactive visualisation to build the model. The roadmap describes a future beyond the focus of VIGOR++ but building upon its achievements. Its scope extends to a model that describes other GI diseases and some degree of interaction between this model and other related organ models. Two forms of the roadmap are presented – a descriptive version and a diagrammatic version that gives a summary view but makes clearer how the various aspects or layers relate to each other.
The roadmap timeline is from 2012 to 2022. Topics covered include: Vision for 2022; Drivers of success; Business and Market; Products, Processes and Services; Technology (Image Analysis, Modelling & Classification, Interactive Visualisation, Complementary Technologies); and Other Resources Required (Traning, Business Models, Role of Social Media).The roadmap is available to download from here

EU Task Force on e-Health: Redesigning health in Europe for 2020
This report focuses on how to achieve a vision of affordable, less intrusive and more personalised care. Ultimately, increasing the quality of life as well as lowering mortality. Such a vision depends on the application of ICT and the use of data. The Task Force behind this report was convened to explore the potential of ICT in health innovation in the EU and make recommendations on what could be done now to ensure that Europe reaps the full benefits of eHealth in 2020.

Redesigning Health in Europe for 2020
eHealth Task Force Report
In 2020 the health and health care of our citizens could look quite different. We find ourselves today on the threshold of a new era with many opportunities for radical improvements in the way we manage and receive health care. In order to ensure the sustainability of our health care systems, there is a need to tackle considerable challenges. This new report focuses on how to achieve a vision of affordable, less intrusive and more personalised care.
Today, healthcare costs in Europe are climbing. Healthcare is a constantly growing component of public finances, rising to 9 % of GDP and representing between 6% and 15% of government spending in most EU countries. These costs are driven by demographic changes, a dramatic increase in chronic conditions linked to unhealthy lifestyles, expensive new technologies and products, the need for more specialised skills and the demand for high level care.
