Description
MeDDiCA workshop on
Cardiovascular Applications and Medical Device Design and Assessment
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
Introduction
Medical devices have evolved greatly over the past two decades, providing better treatment options and allowing improved quality of life. This has been especially evident in cardiovascular applications. Addressing needs in the specification of minimally invasive devices within the cardiovascular field, researchers and industry come up with new ideas and designs. Recent computational modelling efforts have sought to predict and assess design performance, aiming to understand each influence within the cardiovascular disease progression and study treatment options. However experimental validation and standardization of parameters is required to support computational efforts, providing a base for prototyping of devices, clinical testing and better understanding of clinical needs for further device development.
Aims & Scope
The workshop provides a platform for young scientists (see guidelines for requirements) involved in VPH, within the specific research fields of Cardiovascular Engineering and Medical Devices. This workshop will provide an opportunity for a discussion on standards as well as fostering interaction between young experimentalists and modellers, which could lead to long-term networking. It will also promote better interactions between the experts and the participants. The scope of the workshop includes, but is not limited to, the following topics
- Cardiovascular Stenting.
- Tissue deformation and tissue growth
- Left ventricular assist devices.
- Catheter design.
- Thrombus formation.
- Haemodynamics in complex patient-specific geometries.
- Heart valve dynamics.
- Percutaneous implantation of valve devices
Guidelines for abstract submission
The paper must be submitted by a “young researcher” (as first or second author). A confirmation e-mail from the supervisor is needed as proof of eligibility (see below for eligibility rules).
- Eligibility for “young researcher” status will be according to the Marie Curie rules for participation as an Early Stage Researcher and Experienced Researcher (PhD students and post-docs with less than 2 years of experience beyond PhD level at the time of submission).
- Not more than 2-pages (~1800 words) according to standard VPH format.
- Selection process will be peer reviewed.
- Duplicate submission of the abstract to main VPH-conference is not accepted.
- Successful submission will either be presented as oral talk, or during a poster session.
- Details of abstract guidelines are available on VPH2012 webpage
- The best paper will be recommended by the organising committee for publication as a full article in a journal to be confirmed.
- Contributions to the workshop will have to specify in the EasyChair submission process that they wish to be considered to be included within this workshop and should also email the workshop organiser This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it Otherwise conference organisation will consider them for the main conference. Please bear in mind that all papers submitted to the workshops *must* pay a registration fee to the conference (if accepted).
Abstract submission is via EasyChair. You will need to create an EasyChair account if you do not already have one. To start the abstract submission process please click here!
