- Title:
- Mathematics of Multiscale Modelling Workshop in VPH2012
- When:
- 18.09.2012 - 20.09.2012
- Where:
- London, UK - London
- Category:
- VPH workshop
Description
Introduction
The proposed workshop will examine fundamental mathematical techniques which under-pin multiscale modelling of the VPH, highlighting novel modelling approaches, recent successes and current challenges. Themes to be included in the event include approaches to homogenisation of models across multiple spatial scales, which allow cell-level models to be systematically scaled up to the tissue/organ level, and related asymptotic techniques for the analysis of multiple timescale problems, such as those arising in studies of drug delivery,wound healing and gene regulatory networks: the workshop will seek to span scales from gene, signalling and metabolic networks up to tissue and organ levels. The workshop will target researchers of both mathematical and nonmathematical backgrounds, including leading mathematicians with no previous exposure to VPH-related questions as well as VPH experts, thereby promoting future collaborations between these communities.
Aims and Scope
Workshop themes will include, but will not be strictly limited to:
- fundamental mathematical techniques in multiscale modelling for the Virtual Physiological Human;
- homogenisation across multiple spatial scales;
- asymptotic analysis and its application to multiple timescale problems;
- hybrid (stochastic/determinstic, discrete/continuous) models across multiple spatio-temporal scales.
Guidelines for abstract submission
The call for abstracts for this session is exactly the same as the VPH2012 conference and all abstracts will follow the same process. Contributions to the workshop will have to specify in the EasyChair submission process that they wish to be considered to be included within this workshop and should also email the workshop organiser This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Otherwise conference organisation will consider them for the main conference. Please bear in mind that all papers submitted to the workshops *must* pay a registration fee to the conference (if accepted). Any queries regarding the format of this workshop or the associated submission procedure can be directed to in the first instance can also be directed to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Abstract submission is via EasyChair. You will need to create an EasyChair account if you do not already have one. To start the abstract submission process please click here!
The deadline for submission of abstracts is 29th February 2012; authors of selected talks will be notified by 31st May 2012.
