Description
SCI-BUS, SHIWA, EDGI joint Summer School on Workflows and Gateways for Grids and Clouds
2-6 July 2012, Budapest, Hungary
There are already several well established grid and cloud infrastructures in Europe. The next issue is how to exploit these infrastructures, how to port and develop application for these infrastructures and how to extend their user communities. The main goal of this summer school is to give answers for these questions and to promote best practice examples for potential application developers and users of e-science infrastructures.
The SCI-BUS project <http://www.sci-bus.eu/> will train application developers how to develop workflows and parameter sweep applications for distributed computing infrastructures (DCIs) based on the WS-PGRADE workflow concept and the gUSE high-level user support environment that enables transparent access to various DCIs like grids, clouds, desktop grids, clusters and supercomputers. SCI-BUS also trains gateway developers how to customize the WS-PGRADE/gUSE framework to create user-centric, application-oriented gateways.
The SHIWA project <http://www.shiwa-workflow.eu/ will explain how those user communities who are engaged with one of the major workflow systems can share workflows with other communities and explore the various DCIs mentioned above via the services of gUSE.
The EDGI project <http://edgi-project.eu/> enables the extension of grids with institutional and volunteers desktop grids giving the possibility to significantly increase the available resources for these grids in a cost-effective way. The EDGI day will explain the possible ways how this extension can be made and also explains how to port applications to this extended and integrated DCI.
A whole day is devoted cloud computing where the students are trained how to build and use cloud systems.
The DCI projects are part-funded under the e-Infrastructures topic of the EU FP7 "Capacities" theme.
