The Computational Biochemistry and Biophysics lab at the GRIB (IMIM/UPF), in collaboration with theCIBBIM-Nanomedicine-Immunobiology group at the Vall d’Hebron Institut de Recerca, is offering a joint PhD studentship on the project entitled “Modulation of immune receptors function as a novel therapeutic strategy for acute CNS damage” funded by Fundació La Marató de TV3. The candidate will cycle between the computational predictions of the interaction of CD300 receptors and their partners and their experimental validation. For this reason, the ideal candidate will be a biologist/biochemist with knowledge on structural bioinformatics techniques, with the capacity to serve as a bridge between the two groups while conducting both wet and in silico experiments. The CBBL will provide the tools and expertise needed for the computational side of the project while the CIBBIM will provide the experimental set up for its wet lab side.

The student will be enrolled as a PhD in the UPF while being co-directed by the group leaders of the two labs, with a strong connection with the rest of the labs within the project. Salary will follow the official UPF tables. Applicants must have: 1) MSc degree on bioinformatics with a degree in biology/biochemistry or a similar combination of expertises; 2) demonstrable experience in the required skills; 3) excellent written and spoken English.

The application must contain: 1) curriculum vitae; 2) list of publications; 3) a letter of interest (up to 1 A4-page), including the detail on the experience on the computational and experimental sides; 4) contact details of at least 2 academic or industry members that can refer your work (at least one on the computational side and one on the experimental side).

Send your application package through this link by December 10th 2011.

Candidates with EU passport will have preference for bureaucratic reasons. Positions are offered for 3 years, starting in January 2012.
