VPH NoE General and Associate Membership - Application Procedure PDF | Print | E-mail

APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN!

In addition to the 13 institutions which make up the core project membership, the VPH NoE has also created an extended membership which any Institution, Organisation or Commercial Entity with an interest in the work of the VPH NoE, may apply to join. By operating an open application process, the VPH NoE seeks to ensure wider engagement of the research community with both its own activities, and those of the wider VPH initiative.

Why become a VPH NoE Associate of General Member – what’s in it for me?

By becoming a VPH NoE General (GM) or Associate Member (AM) researchers within your institution will be eligible and encouraged to get involved in several VPH NoE activities. These include:

  • VPH website/VPH Initiative online networking activities - your institution will be listed in our AM/GM directory. We will create links to your institution/research group’s web pages, and will publish regular AM/GM profiles in the membership section of the website, highlighting the work of the extended project membership.
  • VPH project meetings and International symposia – attendance of annual project meetings and biannual International symposia organised by the VPH NoE will be open to AM/GM. Funds to support attendance of these events will be made available. AM/GM will also have a vote in the VPH NoE general assembly which meets on these occasions, and which will govern overall project strategy and development.
  • VPH ToolKit development – The VPH ToolKit will be actively developed and updated during the VPH NoE project. AM/GM may become core users of the resources available if they wish to do so, and also contribute to development themselves. More information on the VPH ToolKit is available here.
  • VPH exemplar projects - Three cycles of competitive calls for project proposals will be released during the lifetime of the VPH NoE project. For more information on the VPH Exemplar Projects see here.
  • Training Activities – The VPH NoE is developing and will run a broad portfolio of VPH-related training activities. AM/GM will be able to advance register for events, and get involved in their planning and development if this is of interest. For more information on the VPH training activities see here.
  • Contribution to dissemination materials – As with training, the VPH NoE will engage in broad range of dissemination and networking activities. GM/AM will be featured in these (newsletters, roadmaps, website etc) but can also get more directly involved. The NoE will be looking to support GM/AM in attending VPH-related events. For more information on the VPH dissemination see here.
  • Contribution to online discussions and debate – any member of the research community may contribute to the VPH Initiative online forum. GM/AM, however, may register for posting updates if they wish and will be invited to participate in focused discussion groups as required by the project.

Whats the difference between Associate and General Membership?

In terms of who should register for what, Associate membership is for Commercial/Industrial Entities and Large Organisations, whereas General Membership is specifically for Academic Institutions.

The key difference between membership types is that General Members are eligible to apply for Exemplar Project (EP) funding and support for travel to VPH meetings and events, whereas Associate Members are not*. Invitations to apply for both of these will be released during the lifetime of the project (unsolicited applications will not be considered).

(* Note that AM can be involved as a collaborator in an EP, but will not receive monetary support directly from the NoE).

VPH membership agreements

In order to ensure that GM/AM genuinely can engage with the project in the ways outlined above, General and Associate Membership Agreements which will formalise these opportunities have been created. The document is a collaboration agreement between the GM/AM and the VPH NoE coordinator.
