VPH NoE Strategic Vision Document: Public review by 8th November 2009
The European research area is joining forces around a revolutionary vision for biomedical research that goes by the name of ‘Virtual Physiological Human’ (VPH). A definition of VPH can be found here
In 2005, when the VPH initiative started, a group of researchers and of clinical, industrial and institutional experts developed a consensus on the research roadmap that Europe should follow to make this vision a reality. This roadmap was published in 2007, and can be downloaded from here.
In 2008 15 new research projects funded by the European Commission were launched. One of them is the VPH Network of Excellence (VPH NoE), which aims to help, support, and progress European research in biomedical modelling and simulation of the human body.
One of the duties of the VPH NoE is to drive the development of a shorter document, entitled "A Vision and Strategy for the VPH in 2010 and beyond" which will provide a strategic update to the 2007 roadmap, and set the vision for the next ten years. A first draft of the document was developed following the VPH-Initiative Day held on the 9th September 2009 by a panel of experts involved with the VPH NoE. This was coordinated by Peter Hunter and Marco Viceconti. This first draft is now open for comments and requests for changes to anyone who would like to contribute. If you are willing to submit comments or requests for changes, you can do this to the discussion forum/mailing list we created on Biomed Town to this purpose. Simply post your comment of request for change on line here. If you want to follow up the debate on the forum you need first to join the Biomed Town community, if you are not already one of the nearly 2000 members. Membership is open and free to anyone with professional or educational interests in biomedical research and practice, and its regulated by the European privacy law. If you are not a member you can join from here. Once you are a member, you can subscribe to the discussion forum simply by clicking here. Once subscribed you will receive by email all messages that are posted to the forum / mailing list, and you will be allowed to post your own.
