POLITICAL DEMONSTRATION INFORMATION FOR 29th SEPTEMBER

The European Trade Union Confederation is staging a European Day of Action on 29  September. This Day of Action follows a decision by the ETUC Executive Committee on 1 and 2 June. It will be made up of a Euro-demonstration in Brussels and trade union actions in the various European countries. The European trade unions will be demonstrating against the austerity measures adopted recently by many European countries, and to demand recovery plans in favour of quality jobs and growth. 80,000 people are expected to take part in this demonstration.

Please note that the political demonstration will not take place near the Solbosch campus where all meetings are taking place. However, you may experience some inconvenience in travel arrangements. The political demonstration ‘No to austerity’ will start in Gare Du Midi at 11.30am and then a procession will leave from the Gare du Midi at 13.00pm and will go to the European Commission  in Schuman to arrive by 15.00pm. The demonstration will end at 16.00pm.

Details of the demonstration can be found here

Whilst it is very difficult to predict a planned political demonstration like this – we are  advising people that if possible - to stay away from the route and area of the demonstration during this time.  The demonstration is likely to affect transportation. We would advise you to not go to the metro stations Gare du midi, porte de Hal, Hotel des Monnaies, Louise, Porte de Namur, Trone, Schuman and Merode during the period of the procession (13.00 – 15.00pm). We would also advise you to be aware that transport in Brussels may be very busy in the morning of the 29th with people arriving to the political demonstration.

VPH NoE: Strategic consensus meeting

Brussels, 29 September 2010 ULB Solbosch Campus

Participation is open and free to anyone, but pre-registration is required

Rationale

Every year the VPH NoE must assemble to develop strategies for the future of the Virtual Physiological Human. As a direct part of its activities, this entails:

  • General Assembly of all members

  • Consensus panel with Advisory Board

  • Consensus panel on roadmap update

In addition, not formally linked to the VPH NoE but strongly related to it:

  • Presentation of VPH Institute activities

  • Consensus process on the ARGOS Position paper

  • VPH FET support action and VPH FET Flagship initiatives

The VPH Network of Excellence invites all those who are involved with the VPH initiative to an all-hands meeting, where key VPH key figures will be invited to update the community on strategic activities, to present detailed information and to discuss openly the general strategic directions that the VPH initiative will take in the next years.

From this public discussion will emerge the 2010 update to the VPH Research Roadmap that will be compiled and published by the VPH NoE before the end of the year.
