HealthGrid Situation
HealthGrid's mission during the last ten years has been to structure, strengthen and give a vision to the users of grid technology in bioinformatics and healthcare. This has been their ambition, and it embodied through their involvement in a number of successful projects and a constant care for bringing people and ideas together. Several major results have been obtained:
+ the HealthGrid conference series, which has been bringing together top-level scientists, engineers, and decision-makers of the field for 10 years
+ the setting up of the biomed virtual organization, now gathering more than 300 people from 4 continents, and representing one of the most active community of life-science grid users in EGI
+ the organization of the life-science grid community , a collaboration among 5 of the major virtual organisations related to life-sciences in Europe
+ participation of members of the HealthGrid community in most, if not all, the funded projects
These have made the HealthGrid community a major actor in grid/cloud technologies. In view of these successes, the founders estimated that it was now time for HealthGrid to evolve into different a form, and the association officially closed on December 23rd, 2011. Despite this, they still have the intention to continue the human network, and the technical community now exists as lsgc and HealthGrid events will continue to exist in stand-alone format as well as in combination with other events.
