Description

Semantic interoperability for clinical data and VPH models workshop

Introduction

Semantic interoperability enables heterogenous information systems to communicate, transmit and share information, and to interpret the information that has been shared. Metadata standards and semantic technologies can contribute to semantic interoperability. In particular in heterogeneous communities such as the VPH, novel strategies must be investigated to make systems work together. In this workshop, we discuss and demonstrate ways to promote interoperability between model resources and databases as well as between the software systems that are in use within the VPH community. The aim is to disseminate strategies to improve interoperability within the VPH.

Workshop Objectives, Goals, and Expected Outcome

Our goal is to report on RICORDO's mission to the VPH. We intend to address the whole VPH community. RICORDO is one of the knowledge management resources within the VPH. RICORDO provides both VPH infrastructure and annotation content in support of semantic interoperability for VPH resources. This work has produced standards for annotation and tools for managing VPH resources (e.g. ontologies and metadata repository). In this workshop, we want to expose the problem and the solutions, both abstract and concrete, to semantic interoperability within the VPH. The abstract solutions are the metadata standardization guidelines and the concrete solutions are the tools developed to support interoperability. We want the attendees to understand the concepts involved and gain experience in applying the tools which the RICORDO project has developed.
