Postdoc position available November 2009 (Ref CF1) on cystic fibrosis, University Pompeu Fabra

The Computational Biochemistry and Biophysics Laboratory (CBBL) at the Research Unit on Biomedical Informatics (GRIB) is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to study different aspects of the molecular basis of cystic fibrosis (CF).
The candidate will participate in the Avanza-funded project Activ8, which supposes a joint effort between industry, academia and clinics to develop new tools for the monitoring and treatment of CF patients. The task to be developed by the candidate involves the computational study of the effect of single amino acid deletions or point mutations in the misfolding of the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR), using genome and structural bioinformatics, as well as molecular simulations tools. In addition, the candidate is also expected to interact strongly with the rest of the consortium team, devoted to develop on-line tools to link basic science knowledge on the disease phenotype with genotypic information from CF patients. The candidate will hold a PhD with strong experience on molecular modelling and simulations as well as good experience on genome bioinformatics, ideally in the area of CFTR or, more generally, in ion channels function and expression research. Experience on code development (Python, C and Objective C) will be taken into account.
The salary is 32.600€/year before taxes, and the project will last for 26 months, starting inmediately.
The GRIB/IMIM/UPF is part of the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park which, with a privileged location on the shoreline of the Mediterranean sea, constitutes one of the most exciting interdisciplinary research centres in Southern Europe in one of the fastest growing biomedical research regions in the area.
To apply, send by e-mail a statement of interest, your CV and the name of two researchers that can refer your work. Please, indicate Ref CF1 in the subject of your message.
